***GOD'S GRACE***

From All Saints' MCC to CRAVE MCC @ Christchurch

As Christchurch's most accepting church we have reinvented ourselves by embracing a more contemporary worship style and adopting a funky new name. Formerly known as All Saints' Metropolitan Community Church, the small group of believers now call themselves Crave MCC@Christchurch. Moving away from the Christchurch parish's traditional, laid back worship style of the past two decades, All Saints' Metropolitan Community Church has undergone a re-christening of sorts. We have linked up with a dynamic young parish in Sydney, CRAVE MCC.

Although the approach at the services each Sunday at 5pm in the church in Nancy Avenue, Mairehau, is becoming more contemporary, you can be assured that our beliefs haven't changed. True belief in Jesus Christ is still the cornerstone of a faith that is also manifested in outreaches and other activities.

While the church aims to create a safe spiritual environment for non-heterosexual people, who are sometimes referred to as the rainbow community, it also caters for anyone else who wants to be part of the group, regardless of background or circumstances. We believe everyone is worthy of the Gospel.

Informal home groups are being formed with the eventual goal of having one in every Christchurch suburb. A new discipleship training series called Soul Shift is being studied at these gatherings, the main purpose of which is to provide close personal support and attention, building on the relationship with God that is explored during the weekly Sunday Communion service.
MCC congregations are well established in several countries, particularly in the United States, where the first ones were founded.

The "Crave" idea was born out of a need to connect with God in a deeper way as we worship. Moving with the times also means maintaining active links with our sister congregation in Paddington, Sydney, and sharing helpful resources and information. The local CRAVE MCC @ Christchurch leaders answer to a church board, of which most members are in Sydney.
You are most welcome and invited to come and share with us anytime!

From Our Senior Pastor Karl Hand

Kia Ora and welcome to the CRAVE MCC @ Christchurch website. My name is Karl Hand, I'm the pastor of CRAVE MCC - and currently spend most of my time ministering at CRAVE MCC @ Paddington, on the 'West Island', aka Australia.

Recently, members of the former MCC Allsaints in Christchurch formed a CRAVE homegroup, and then kicked off Sunday services as part of CRAVE MCC. It is the beginning of a ground-breaking partnership between two groups of people.

CRAVE worship is unique. It unites three different forces of contemporary Christianity. Like many 'gay and lesbian churches' we are inclusive, - we mean it when we say everyone is welcome - however, we are not a gay and lesbian church.

Like many mainstream and liberal churches, we are progressive, - we encourage an intelligent and even sometimes critical way of understanding Christianity - however, we are not a liberal church. We also are not a Pentecostal church in the traditional sense of the word - our theology is broader than that.

But like many Pentecostal, charismatic churches, we are dynamic, - we avoid dry, formulaic worship, we use free-flowing, contemporary worship, practice the presence of the Holy Spirit, and encourage spontaneity and the spiritual gifts (1 Cor 12-14 etc.)

I try to get over to our Christchurch family as often as I can to be with the team there - and if you are interested in getting involved, shoot me an email, or ask one of the Spiritual Leaders in Christchurch to give me your number and I'm more than happy to give you a call and have a chat.

God bless you all, and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Pastor Karl +
